I often have clients describe their eating behaviors with me using negative self-talk, such as:
“I caved.”
“I was horrible.”
“I was really bad.”
I attack this right away.
While it may be true that you have a learning opportunity, it is unequivocally not true that because you ate a cookie, you are a bad person.
We can talk about what may have been missing from your diet that led to the craving, we can talk about how many cookies are the right amount for you based on your goals, and we can talk about what was going on around you at the time that led to the eating behavior which made you feel bad.
But we will not allow any one behavior to define who you are, or who you can become.
