No Conditions

“I’ll keep my promise if you keep yours.”

I started to say that the other day to someone, then immediately corrected myself.

I replaced it with, “Please disregard that; I’ll keep my promise no matter what, whether you do, or not.”

Not only must promises be kept, they should never be conditional.
