I saw some tomatoes highlighted as ‘Locally Grown!’ with attractive signage in my local Trader Joe’s the other day.
I live in New York.
The tomatoes were grown on a farm in Florida.
For context, ‘Locally Grown!’ is widely subjective, and in my opinion, should only apply to something grown within about 100 miles of your house.
And that’s being generous.
I love Trader Joe’s, this is not a knock on them.
This is a common practice in many stores.
It’s quite possible to buy all of your fresh produce from truly local sources, or even grown your own, if you put the effort into it.
