“I Love You … But …”

When the word ‘but’ comes after the phrase ‘I love you’ then we’re talking about a kind of conditional love.

Conditional love is not the same thing as unconditional love, which I will refer to as Love with a capital ‘L’.

Conditional love is a form of love that we sometimes teach to our children, whether we’re aware of it or not, which they then go on to model in future relationships.

Love, on the other hand, although sometimes more difficult to express, because it means that you yourself have to surrender completely to the other person, knows no ‘buts’.

For Love, there is only ‘Yes!’ or ‘And!’
