The other day I hopped onto a customer service call, something I hadn’t done in a long time.
Of course, I spent many years doing, and then teaching people how to do that.
I have a few pointers I can offer 🙂
I always ask for the first name of the person I’m speaking with – no matter how hurried or demanding that person is.
It’s important.
At the end of this particular call, the gentleman asked for my name (even though I stated it right away).
That was perhaps the highest form of a complement I could have recieved.
To know that I had made a true connection, that in his eyes I was someone he wanted to remember, not just someone mindlessly trying to get off the phone as quickly as possible …
… it felt good to know that I hadn’t lost my personal touch.
