We used to have to learn how to read maps; now, navigation does it for us.
We used to have to develop the skill of taking notes; now, we can just screenshot that.
This is not a rant against technology, but rather, some questions to consider.
If those and other similar skills are no longer being developed by necessity in our children, should they be? Do we still need them moving forward?
Irrespective of the answer to that question, what skills are we encouraging or enabling them to develop instead, with the free time that has been opened up by technology?
Finally, what skills should we be encouraging? What will they need to know how to do five, ten, and twenty years from now?
