Your Attention

Towards what will you turn your attention today?

For how long?

If you haven’t the faintest clue, perhaps because you’re operating without a plan, or have many options and aren’t sure where to start, my suggestion is:

Towards the 1 most important thing, until it is done.

It sounds simple, and it is. But it isn’t easy.

First, it isn’t always so easy to identify the 1 most important thing. You must dedicate time & energy to this. I recommend at least 15 minutes of weekly planning before your week begin towards this end, and, occasional adjustments as the week progresses.

The second part, ‘until it is done’, means that no matter what, you will not allow any other distraction or project get in your way for any significant amount of time. Should anything vie for your attention while you are working on your #1, then you will deal with and dispatch it as quickly as possible, immediately turning back towards your 1 most important thing.

With all that we have incoming these days, if you can practice this, you’ll be ahead of most people.
