My son mentioned the other night that I seemed to be ‘going to bed early lately’, as I’ve been winding things down around 9 PM, instead of the 10 PM time he had gotten used to for a few weeks.
Except it’s the other way around. It’s not that 9 PM was ‘early’. 10 PM was too late.
Establishing a regular sleep schedule (that means going to bed and rising as approximately the same time every day) trains your body to fall asleep faster, thus providing you with more of the deep sleep you need to rest and digest.
Staying up that ‘extra hour’ every day, for weeks, months, or years at a time really adds up.
On top of all of that, it won’t make you more productive, if you’re staying up to try and ‘do more work’.
If you think that you need to ‘shave’ your 7th and/or 8th hour of sleep off just so that you can ‘do all of the things you need to do’, think again.
Getting that extra hour or two of sleep is one of the things you need to do, and, it will help you (though paradoxical) actually do more while you’re awake.
Oh, and, don’t believe me or take my word for it.
Try it for a week and see for yourself.
