“Can I meet this with kindness?”
As I’ve said before, simple does not mean easy.
When you’re tempted by selfishness, anger, or frustration in response to someone else, can you meet them with kindness, despite whatever feelings are bubbling up?
Keep in mind that the point of this exercise, which, I recommend practicing all throughout the day, is not to disregard your own feelings.
Your feeling count and matter as well. They need to be addressed, explored, and discussed.
But they do not need to dictate how you react to things.
They can be acknowledged, and then intentionally left out of a much more thoughtful, kind, response.
