There are lots of things that we have to do.
But we don’t have to do them all right now.
In fact, we cannot. I would argue that you can only actually do one thing at a time.
Yet still we often let whatever we are not doing right now distract us from what we are.
While we sit at the dinner table, we think about everything we have to do later.
While we meditate in the morning, we think about stopping and getting to work.
While we are in a conversation, we dream about something completely unrelated.
Yes, there are lots of things that we have to do, and perhaps the most important one of all is to be as present as possible in the one thing we are actually doing right now.
