The Right Food Question

“Hey Matt, is this [insert food product or picture here] good?”

This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get, and I have written before about my typical approach to answering, except today I’ll take a slightly different and deeper angle:

If you’re asking me this, you’re asking the wrong question, and the good news is that you are on the right track.

You’re unsure. Unsure is good. Unsure means that you need to test something out for yourself, or seek some guidance about which direction to continue exploring. Unsure means that you’re open.

Sure is bad. Sure means that you’re closed to possibility, to change, to growth. Examples of sure include being rigidly stuck inside a ‘diet box’.

I know the difference between food and ‘not-food’, that I can share with you. (Read the ingredients.)

I don’t know exactly what works well for your body today.

Note the ‘today’. No word I ever type to you is an accident. What your body needs today will not always be the same as what it needed yesterday, or even at various times within the same day.

It’s good if it makes you, and the planet, feel good.

Your question is good, but don’t stop there. Do not seek someone to give you the answer. You can seek guidance, but do not relinquish your authority (or responsibility).

It is you who holds the answer; that has always been the case; that is the only way it can be.

Today I’ve written two posts. If you’re a #Plainview Dad, the second one is for you. Check it out here.
