I have to confess: sometimes I break my health routines.
I’ve written about them and how important they are many times; everything I do in the morning, throughout the day, and before bed.
But I still break them.
This is an important part of what ‘being healthy’ is about.
It’s the other side of discipline.
As Jocko Willink says, “discipline equals freedom”.
Everything is not just one way, it never is. It’s on a spectrum.
No matter how disciplined you have been about something until today, life will throw you a curveball tomorrow.
The word ‘break’ isn’t even correct.
It implies that there is something wrong. That there is only one action that is right.
There’s nothing wrong with you if you [insert habit here, such as: eat poorly, miss a day at the gym, etc.] You’re not broken.
If your discipline waned today, that’s OK. Just do what you are capable of today.
Give yourself the permission to do that, and nothing more, and be OK with it.
Then get up tomorrow, and do what you are capable of then.
