Emotional Labor

When you clear the air and leave everything exposed on the table …

When you let your heart bleed out onto the paper you’re writing on …

When you give the other person you’re with your full and undivided attention, without any judgement at all …

When you use all of your available energy to charge those around you to be better …

When you do those things, you go to bed tired from emotional labor. You may even feel a little bit … empty.

But that’s what you want. Because that emptiness creates space for the better version of you to grow in.

Yes, just like muscles and hair, your soul needs nutrition, exercise, and can grow.

The more you practice doing the difficult work that only your feelings can guide, the more complete of a person you will become.
