There was a period of several years when I didn’t like looking at myself in the mirror because I had man boobs. It took me a long time before I was ready to change that.
Guys, not just women, have body image concerns. There may be a slightly different reasons for, and approaches to those concerns, but, they exist.
Here are a few examples:
“My body looks and feels soft, and it’s depressing.”
“Man, that guy is jacked!”
“I just don’t have the energy, and frankly don’t care enough, to do anything about it.”
“I know I can look like that, but, I’m just not sure how to get there.”
“I’d better make friends with that guy just so I don’t have to fight him, or in case a fight breaks out.”
“Do I have to take my shirt off? Will it look weird if I don’t?”
“Does she find me attractive enough to make love to me?”
Here’s my suggestion for how to deal with body image concerns, brother:
Begin by paying attention to how you feel about your body. When you’re brave enough to dig deep into whatever thoughts go through your head, that is where you can find the strength to change them.
You’ll have to ask and answer some tough questions, but that is the path to change.
That power to reshape your body lies inside of you. I cannot give it to you; I can only help you to unleash it.
