What’s Your Max Effort?

You can always lift 5-10 more pounds.

John McCallum taught me that.

Even if you just squatted a super-heavy fifth set of five reps, and you gave it your all, you could have done 5-10 more pounds.

What if your life, or the life of your child, depended on it?

You would lift it. You would not fail.

That’s what I remind myself when I’m pushing the weight up in the 95-100% range.

You’re always capable of a little bit more.

I often write about how ‘less it more’ in life. And that’s true …

… except with effort. Some things, like effort, are simple. More is more.
