Going First

In most meetings, your colleague has something which they really want to say.
And, they’re probably not going to hear what you have to say, until they get their opinion off of their chest.

Going first can be an act of listening, not speaking.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with speaking first; just notice that it’s not your only option, and, when done automatically, it’s unlikely to lead to the best possible result.
