I don’t know very much about how telephones work, technically.
I mean, sure, it’s obvious that the sound going into my receiver gets magically transformed into some kind of electric pulse, which then reassembles itself into my voice on the other end, which might be across the country, or the world.
It’s not really the ‘how’ it works that I’m concerned with. It works.
What I noticed the other day is that it doesn’t just transmit sound; it transmits feeling.
Even though the other person might not be able to see you, they can definitely feel you.
They can feel if you are paying attention to them, or not.
They can feel if you are sending your heart through that wire, or just your voice.
Telephones transmit energy (positive or negative), not just sound.
