You feel the pressure, but you never let anyone see it. It starts to come out in other ways, no matter how hard you hold back.
One of the things I turned to was alcohol. It provides a temporary relief from the pain, but what I didn’t realize that it was making the pain worse.
That’s why I couldn’t wait to start drinking again from the moment I woke up the next day – the Novocaine was wearing off.
Drinking will not make it go away. Only talking and hard work can do that.
But here’s the upside: if constantly drinking exacerbates your pain exponentially over time (and, it does), then constantly being open & honest minimizes your pain exponentially over time as well.
That’s a long-winded way of saying that, it’s very hard at first to talk about it. But it gets much, much easier over time.
