Is My Mental Illness A Part Of Me?

Yes, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept the fact that it should take over your daily life and impair your ability to function.

I don’t have all the answers about identity, the universe, nature, and nurture. What I do know is that if you have a mental illness, it is inside of your brain.

That’s all that means; nothing more. It’s in there. It doesn’t mean it necessarily has to stay there forever (although it might), and it certainly doesn’t mean it can’t get better or worse.

It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to live with, beat, control, subdue, medicate, talk about, or do whatever the hell you have to do to … live.

Yeah sure, it’s a part of you. But it’s nothing to be ashamed of or get down about, if possible. (I know that’s hard to do.)

There are many, many more parts to you than just one (or three) mental illness (-es).

The part that wants to find happiness is in there somewhere as well.
