“I Should Have Known” by Dave Groehl

Pain, anger, sadness … a nation felt it when Kurt Cobain took his own life in 1994. Years later in 2011, Kurt’s former friend and band mate released this.

The song has always made a special connection to me because it makes me think about more than the blackness that Dave felt after Kurt left.

He’ll always punish himself for not doing more. That will never go away.

This is the what we who choose to leave this world leave behind in our wake. A twisting knife in the gut of our loved ones, every day, forever.

Our pain doesn’t disappear into thin air. Like energy that cannot be destroyed, it transfers to those around us and lives in them.
